CRICKET 2023

Cricket continues to go very well at Logan Park High School. We won the grade for the 2022/23 season which was a fantastic result. Another highlight was playing one of our games on the University Oval, in front of the grandstand, the best ground in Dunedin.

We started the current 2023/24 season with three games in the McCullum Cup over Labour weekend. This was a great tournament for us as we won two matches.

On Saturdays the team has been playing in the Open Schools grade against mostly boy’s schools. So far we have won three out of four games. Our most recent game was a top of the table clash with Otago Boys Colts. Our older hitters were on top at the start chasing 174 and were at 90/0 before losing our first wicket. After going five down we were into our younger players who really struggled against some fine fast swing bowling. We ended up only ten runs short of their total.

Our current year 10 players are showing strong skills and making great contributions to the team. Jordan Trainer, Odin Hyink and Ozan Biner-McGrath. These are all players who will strengthen the team as they age.

New year 9s include Lee Shotter, a regular wicket taker, Ollie Warrington, a hard hitting back up wicket keeper, Frank Muir, a stylish batsman and Jack Swainson a newcomer to the game.

The old hands of Alex Parkes and Kieran Graham stayed with us to the end of the last season to savour our grade victory.

Bruno McMillan has ably taken over as captain and the team are a very happy unit.

Rounding out the players are the older group consisting of Ramon Quennell, Conor Hobbs, Floriaan Keenan, Aansh Amin, Stijn and Loek van Broekhoven and Oscar Lambeth.

In Term One we started a second team that played on Wednesdays, mostly against a similar Kings team. These were enjoyable games allowing the younger players to get more action. In 2024 we may need to have two Saturday teams which would be great.

We sadly fare welled Mal Graham, our manager, scorer and cake baker of seven years at the last game in March.
