Thoughts on Sport: Highlights of the Week!

Sports at LPHS are going well this week.

Our Senior Tui Netball team continue dominating their grade, toppling EOHS 29-14 and demonstrating massive potential ahead of the Otago champs.

Our Senior Mixed netballers also extended their win streak, achieving another comprehensive victory over Trinity (21-5).

Our Junior Tui team had a close loss to OGHS. They did however display moments of brilliance, particularly in defence thanks to Nzeru Banda and Isabela Green-Santos.

Logan Park super star boys 1st XI football beat Otago Boys 2-1 in an upset. The boys are on a roll. They focused on winning the Linwood Cup in late August. Keep it up boys.

Coach Ben O’Farrell attended a top coaching course in early May and the results are speaking for themselves.

Recently the LPHS girls’ first XI hockey team were lucky enough to have a training session with local blackstick Patrick Ward. Annabelle Martin writes we won the opportunity to do so thanks to Maddy and Neve’s dad, who entered us in the Vantage Stick Skills roadie competition to win the session. We were super lucky to win, as it was a random draw picked from over 700 entries. It was an hour-long training session led by Patrick and two other future blacksticks, learning lots of helpful tips and tricks to improve our play. The team had a great time, and it was cool to meet players whom we admire and look up to. Hopefully, we can use this learned knowledge from the session in our games. A huge thanks to Hockey New Zealand and the Vantage Blacksticks for this awesome opportunity.

Violet Middlemass described the session as an amazing opportunity.
