Term 1 Library Round-up

Reflecting on all that has been happening in our library this year highlights just how many people gravitate to the space over the course of a week and just how much those people contribute to create our wonderful library space.

Year 9 Library Lessons

In term 1 Year 9 English classes completed a fine term’s work, becoming more familiar with our library and developing a silent reading habit.  During their weekly library lessons the focus was on genre in fiction, enabling students to become familiar with a range of genre features. By the end of Term 1 all students had completed their genre bookmarks! We have prioritised silent reading and discussion around books, which will remain a focus for the whole year.

This term library lessons focus on finding information in our library. Students explore our non-fiction collection and develop skills in using the Dewey Decimal System. Classes are introduced to databases to find information. We continue to prioritise silent reading.

Book Club

Book Club put together a very clever Blind Date with a Book display.  Students selected and carefully wrapped books, the title and author concealed.  Instead, clues were handwritten on the wrapping. This proved to be popular with students.

Thank you to Anya, Samantha and Kai who represented Book Club at our Club Meet & Greet event at the end of last term.

World Poetry Day

The library held a Book Spine Poetry competition to celebrate World Poetry Day. Congratulations to Micah McAnelly, Chloe Robinson and Casey Revill for their spectacular poems.  The competition ran over just 4 days and we received 38 entries.
