Huia Parker

Kia ora, I’m Huia Parker and I’m very excited to be your Deputy Head Girl for 2025.

Since I was quite little I’ve always enjoyed trying new things. Up until age two, me and my parents lived in many areas of New Zealand, in teepees, tents, house buses and, most memorably, my Grandma’s house out in a wee bay in Banks Peninsula. I’ve been lucky enough to grow up mostly in Dunedin since, with good surf having a major appeal for my family. After arriving in Dunedin, me and my younger sister both went to a local Steiner school, which definitely had a big impact on my current enjoyment of watercolour and art. Opoho school and Dunedin North Intermediate came next and, finally, Logan Park! Since this is a pretty regular pipeline of schools to attend, I’ve been lucky enough to have been surrounded by people I’ve known from a young age right up to the near end of high school.

Apart from Art, I’ve always enjoyed playing sports like Netball and Volleyball, with the team aspect really appealing to me. The Art program at Logan Park was definitely one of my main reasons for enjoying my last four years at school. I find it’s been really useful for me to be able to step out of my comfort zone by trying new mediums and seeing new artist models. This is one of my goals for this year: stepping out of my comfort zones and not being afraid of putting myself out there more frequently. I’d like to be able to help maintain the current lovely and positive energy that Logan Park has, which is very important to me!
