Another competition, another award haul!
Once again the Dance department gathered their forces and pulled together a phenomenal performance for Showquest. We went down and back as a team of 31 students and 2 support teachers to Invercargill on June 25th and competed against 9 other high schools in our senior category. This year the student leader team was headed by Ava Brown, Georgie Phillips and Sadie Reid, each taking on different roles to make this production a reality. Ava took charge of the drama elements and costumes, as well as the creation of the video wall. Sadie headed half of the choreography as well as the music soundtrack. Georgie filled in all the rest of the gaps – heading fundraising, submission of elements to the Showquest team, liaising with each production crew (costumes, props, makeup, tech), the other half of the choreography and, together with Ava, the public speaking section of the performance. Even though we didn’t place, we are proud to have come away with 4 major awards!
Public Speaking Award
Best ZM Soundtrack
Best Drama
Highly Commended Video Wall (2nd place)
Without the hard work of these three Year 13 students, the performance wouldn’t have been as amazing as it was.
Some highlights of the day were singing in the bus on the way to Invercargill, Kmart shopping trip, cheering for other schools as they were performing and living on the adrenaline rush after the performance all the way home. It was a long day, but everyone agrees that it was a blast and so worth it.
We can’t wait for our next entry in 2026!
