Senior French Camp

Oh la la – six lucky senior French students joined a cohort of about 60 students at Tirohanga on June 26-27 for our annual French camp.

We had prepared our French cakes for the competition beforehand and started with two activities at the University of Otago – mixing with students from other schools and being immersed en francais straight away.

Then we boarded the buses to go out to the camp to experience a wide range of activities that encouraged us to only speak French. We were spoiled with croissants, baguettes, ratatouille and couscous and prepared most dishes in student groups, chatting away en franglais. A quiz followed and strong LPHS participation meant we were in the top two teams – bravo!

The next day we were entertained by a variety of different skits based on a TV programme that the groups had devised over the two days – very clever and funny! Comments ranged from – ‘we should do this for a longer time’, ‘when can we meet the other students again ?’ to ‘I am definitely going next year!’
