Over Labour weekend, Jack, Huia, and Sarvana ventured back to school on their day off to plant the LPHS 2025 time capsule during the LPHS 50th reunion.
Sarvana delivered an excellent speech on behalf of the student body, while Jack gave a spirited performance on the shovel. A big thank you to Mr Kain for digging deep and bringing the hole home.
The capsule now rests proudly to the left of the commemorative stone and plaque, waiting patiently for the 75th or maybe even the 100th celebrations to see daylight again.
Everyone I spoke to who attended the planting was genuinely impressed by how student-driven the whole event was; they had complete autonomy over what went into the capsule, and it really showed.
Several guests even took the opportunity to snap a few photos with the capsule before it was lowered into its resting place.
Contents of the 2025 LPHS Time Capsule:
Inscriptions on the capsule: Our school motto, “Kua Mutu, Kua Timata” “Now it is finished, now it has begun.” It captures our role in helping students close one chapter and step boldly into the next.
Flowers from the school gardens: A nod to the Logan Park environment of 2025 what we grew, nurtured, and valued about the natural spaces that surround us.
Art from each year level: A colourful snapshot of how young people expressed themselves through creativity at this moment in time.
Newspaper front page: A glimpse into what captured Dunedin’s attention on the day the capsule was sealed the news, the mood, and the moment.
Honour Te Tiriti postcard: A meaningful reminder of the ongoing social and political conversations around Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and our shared commitment to honouring it in our school and community.
Group photos and letters: Each group shared a reflection on Logan Park High School in 2025 a time capsule within the time capsule.
Other treasures: The 50th reunion brochure, LPHS pens, a USB card, and an LPHS poi — a few tangible pieces of school identity to tie it all together.
Finally, a huge thank you to all the group teachers and staff who helped guide, curate, and cheer on your students in creating such a thoughtful snapshot of LPHS in 2025.
