In May, Logan Park celebrated Pink Shirt Day, an anti-bullying campaign and fundraiser event which was organised and led by Logan Park’s Wellbeing Prefects and Wellbeing Ambassadors.
The origins of Pink Shirt Day started in 2007 in Canada, where two students responded to a fellow classmate who was being bullied for wearing a pink shirt by distributing pink shirts to classmates to stand against the bullying. Pink Shirt Day is now a global event held annually to raise awareness around anti-bullying and promotes kindness, inclusivity and the celebration of diversity within our community. Students were asked to bring a gold coin and encouraged to wear a pink shirt last Friday for the non-uniform day. Logan Park raised $380 from this fundraising event, all proceeds were donated to the Mental Health Foundation.
Throughout the week leading up to Pink Shirt Day students were encouraged to fill out Kindness Cards for their friends and classmates with a kind message or note. These were then distributed to students in group time on Pink Shirt Day by our Prefects and Ambassadors to spread Aroha and kindness. Over 500 kindness cards were delivered during Group time on Friday! A range of activities were held on the lunch time of Pink Shirt Day, including pink nail painting and pink face painting which were run by the Wellbeing Ambassadors. As well as a photo booth led by the Wellbeing Prefects where students could pose for a Pink Shirt Day photo with their friends. Competitions for best colouring-in pages and best-dressed spot prizes were given out during the day.
From our Wellbeing Prefects, we would like to give a big thank you to our Wellbeing Ambassadors for being such a big help in organising this event and to all the students who contributed and donated to raising awareness about this important cause.
