Notre journée française

This year our senior French students were invited to take part in a French day.

Five schools took part and about 50 students from Bayfield, Columba, LPHS, Otago Boys and King’s High met in the morning at the University to start this massive day!

Our colleagues at University had organised fantastic activities such as a scavenger hunt, a mini lecture and la petanque and we all felt like real students being able to use the Humanities Common room and meeting with lots of French students from there.

As food plays a vital part in French culture we all had a crepe before collating information on a French dish that we were going to prepare at LPHS in the afternoon – as part of a Master Chef competition.

We went over to the OUSA building to take part in lots of interactive tasks and French was heard everywhere – one of our LPHS students commenting the next day “I just could not stop speaking French”.

Off to LPHS for our Master Chef and crazy business descended into our two food rooms!  Un grand merci to our teachers here at LPHS for letting us use their rooms! The food was delicious….only the couscous needed less salt!

As if this was not enough we caught the bus to the Rialto and had a French movie screened – just for us! A black comedie which…split opinions. Ah c’était intéressant, non c’était nul….j’aime le film – everything was represented.

A great, intense day with lots to take away – merci à tous!
