Mai Te Uira

Kapa Haka, Senior Māori class and Year 9 Mātauranga Māori Core Class (9W) get an up close and exclusive concert by some of Aotearoa’s great artists!

We were very lucky to have the last minute invite to The Glenroy Auditorium on Wednesday 18 June, to experience this amazing concert. Logan Park staff and students had front-row seats in an intimate show. Everyone was enthralled and entertained by Tiki Taane, who played a range of objects as instruments. The lights and projections created by Kereama Taepa were a beautiful, contemporary rendition of tradition toi Māori.

“One of New Zealand’s most well known musicians, producers, and innovators, Tiki Taane (Ngāti Manipoto) and multidisciplinary visual artist Kereama Taepa (Te Arawa, Te Āti Awa) are merging their two worlds together to create a brand new performance experience – Mai Te Uira.

Grounded in a karakia that references the atua and origins of creations and artforms, exisiting and new, Mai Te Uira explores how innnovation and change can be transformative for communities. Te Uira, atua of lightning, sparks and flashes, representing new connections like technology, digital culture and cyberspace. Tānemahuta, a creator himeslf providing us with our own capability and capacity to create, and Hine-te-Iwaiwa whose strength we seek when searching for knowledge to give, receive, and connect”.
