The LPHS choir is open for anyone who wants to sing. This year there are about 25 singers who come together on Mondays and Wednesdays to rehearse in the music performance room.
The choir this year has welcomed a lot of new singers, mostly from years nine, ten and eleven, so we have an exciting few years ahead of us.
For the first two terms our focus has been on preparing for the Big Sing. Run by the New Zealand Choral Federation; this is the national competition for secondary school choirs. Each choir prepares three pieces, including at least one New Zealand piece.
On the 10th of June the choir met at Knox Church to warm up for the day’s festival. We walked together to the Town Hall where we were one of fifteen choirs that performed. The competition was held during the day, followed by a Gala Concert in the evening, where we sang Death and the Maiden by the Verlaines, one of the great rock bands to come out of Logan Park High School.
The LPHS choir didn’t win any of the prizes this year, but the experience of getting up on the Town Hall stage (that is a big hall to sing in!) and listening to the other choirs was valuable.
Thanks to our pianist Ken Nguyen, our director Sara Brown, and to Ms Fahy and Ms Manowitz for coming and supporting us.
