We ended Term Two with our annual Karaoke Week.
Every lunchtime in the final week of Term Two, Manawa Toi Whakaari was full to capacity with delighted audiences sampling the vocal talents of this year’s Karaoke Week contestants.
The event was ably emceed by head prefects Grace, Quinn and Makayla, who also ensured a steady stream of jokes between acts. This being the first year that we have run Karaoke Week without Tip’s technical know-how, Year 10 tech wizard Tyler Cox and his crew stepped up to ensure proceedings ran smoothly. A big thanks to Mr Ross and Ms Fahy as well for providing all the necessary bits and pieces.
While not placing in the final top three, a special mention must go to Ava Brown – described in the judges’ comments as ‘a force of nature’ – who threatened to bring the house down with her rendition of ‘Karma’.
It was a nail-bitingly close call for the judges, but the top three places in the final went to:
1st – Grace Laven-Gray
2nd – Millabeene Turnbull and Frances Reid
3rd – Makayla Houpapa and Hannah Barton
All of the prizewinners are in Year 13, except for Grace – who is in Year 9. She will clearly be a hard act to follow for the foreseeable future!
