Kai and Kotahitanga: Celebrating Matariki Together

In June the Logan Park community came together to celebrate Matariki with a shared lunch in the whare on Tuesday.

In the spirit of whanaungatanga and manaakitanga, students and staff were invited to enjoy a delicious hāngī-style meal to mark the Māori New Year.

Despite the ground being too wet for a traditional earth oven, we adapted by using the kai cookers—ensuring the feast could still go ahead. A huge thank you goes to 9W and the students from the Future Pathways classes, who worked closely with Matua Tip and Ms. Craik to prepare everything.

Josh and Oscar from 9W showed incredible commitment by arriving early in the morning to begin the cooking process. 9W also prepared all the fry bread and helped serve the kai to their peers and teachers, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere in the whare.

Moments like these remind us of the importance of connection, gratitude, and sharing. Kā mihi nui to everyone involved in making this celebration so special.
