In late term 1, our top futsal team had hoped to travel to Wellington to compete at the national secondary schools tournament. Our placements there over the past few years hadnt been as high as we wouldve liked, which showed in our determination to train and to improve, which we started in December 2019.
Months and months of training saw us playing at a level of futsal neither myself nor Mr Govan had seen at Logan Park in a long time. Two weeks out from the national tournament, our team of 10 were heartbroken, as the competition was called off due to the pandemic. However, our practices weren’t for nothing, as over the course of the year, we’ve been undefeated in the local school competition, and though COVID robbed the team of our 1st place in Term 1, this term saw us lifting the Senior Boys Division 1 trophy. Thanks to our prolific goal scoring, with almost 30% of our teams goals coming from unlikely hero Matthew Cowles, the rest of the teams in the competition all finished with a negative goal differential.
