September Sports Round Up

Lots has been happening in the sporting realms.

Teams competed in the South Island Secondary Schools Tournaments in Football, Hockey and Basketball. (Read the full reports on Football and Basketball elsewhere in Park Press).

Our senior student coaches at Dunedin North Intermediate have finished up coaching hockey, netball and basketball. Thanks to Reuben Campbell, Jesse McKersey, Izzie Locker, Mary Locker, David Spencer, Jessica Munro and Emma Campbell for their wonderful leadership in this area.

A group of athletes will travel to the Gold Coast, Australia to play Kingaroy High School in a number of codes over the September holidays, as well as visiting Theme Parks and sight-seeing.  Francine Vella, James Govan and Murray and Mal Thompson will accompany the group.

Our Cross Country runners continue to impress with Henri Gaudin and Rebecca Dalphin winning their events in the Co-Ed event.

Ben Deaker's performances in Diving saw him being named Captain of the NZ Secondary Schools' Diving Team, and he won 4 gold medals at the South Island Champs.

Summer Sports sign ups have seen good numbers of students signing up. Our Sports Council organised an entertaining Multi-sports event as part of Youth Week, and senior PE classes coached primary aged students at North East Valley Normal School this month.
