In May students created their own simple texts and translations in Latin and displayed them authentically through our scroll-making activity.
Imagine having to rewind your book to the beginning after you’d read it - this is what the Romans had to do when they read scrolls. Ours have a mixture of famous Latin quotes, modern quotes translated into Latin, original quotations, Harry Potter spells, and π to 100 decimal places. The pages are aged with coffee, lettering is done with ink and brush or fine-tip pen, and the scroll is then rolled around sticks for compact storage.
