Congratulations to our fantastic Athletics team. Zack Hibbert won Silver at the New Zealand Secondary School Athletics Championships in December.
Zack Hibbert, Nico Alvarez Rey-Virag and Rebecca Dalphin traveled to Wellington for the New Zealand Secondary School Athletics Championships.
Zack won a silver medal in the Junior Hammer and Nico made the 400m final and placed 5th. He was the youngest in the field, at 14 years old.
Nirvana Hepi-Breen and Zack are South Island Champions in their field events.
We had 23 students attend the Otago Secondary School Athletics Championships and 8 students qualified to attend the South Island Secondary School championships in Nelson in March.
Students had to be in the top 3 in Otago to qualify. Standouts for Otago were Nirvana Hepi-Breen and Zack Hibbert who both threw record breaking throws. Nick James-Pirie, Nico Alvarez Rey-Virag and Rebecca Dalphin ran brilliantly in their finals.
6 students travelled to Nelson for the South Island Champs and again Nirvana was a standout winning all three of her throwing events: Hammer, Discus and Shot put. Zack Hibbert also performed magnificently, coming first in Hammer in the South Island. Viviane Dalphin ran very well to place 2nd in her 3000m and Nico placed 2nd in his 400m and 3rd in the 800m.
This has been the most successful Athletics season in some time. We are looking forward to attending the Nationals in December.
