Hillary Challenge

The Hillary Challenge 6-hour rogaine cycle run race took place in Christchurch.

The race starts at the base of the Port Hills with a 3 hour orienteering stage on foot, then there is a short recovery while traveling to Bottle Lake Forest for another 3 hours riding while orienteering. 17 Teams of up to 8 young people from schools all over the South Island competed for the opportunity to qualify for a national rogaine final later in the year.

Anna Goodin, Odin Hyink, Emerson Davies, Ethan Wright, Kate Davey, Salma Johannsen, Henry Eyles and Laura Simpson represented Logan Park. Teams receive a map 20 mins before the race and have to plan the route while searching for markers. The total distance is approximately 60Km. Only one team can finish on the podium but the real win is crossing the line after 6 + hours of navigation, pain, bikes breaking down and mental soul-searching..
