This year, on Saturday the 27th July, we had the Archibald Baxter Memorial Debating Tournament, where we debated in a British Parliamentary style.
This was new to all of us, and so it was a very interesting learning experience. This style consists of four teams of two debating against each other during each round, and the teams are ranked from first to last.
In total, we had 4 teams entered from Logan Park:
Bianca and Hope (Year 13)
Jenny and Rohan (Year 13)
Carlos and Charlotte (Year 11)
Bea and Samuel (Year 10)
There was high competition, with many other talented speakers from schools like Trinity Catholic College, Queens, and Taieri. All our teams debated really well, with it being their first tournament for some. After the third round, Bianca and Hope were on 3 wins and Carlos and Charlotte on 2. Both teams were able to break, coming in the top four and facing each other in the finals. By that time, everyone was already quite tired, and were very ready to go home. Bianca and Hope ended up coming second in the tournament, being the runner-up and winning a few books for our school library. Everyone did really well, especially the year 11s, who were the only team without year 13s to get into finals.
This tournament was a great way to finish the debating year!
