The School YearAll New Zealand schools have a four-term year. The year begins near the beginning of February and ends in early December for the junior school and mid-November for senior students. Senior exams are held throughout November and early December. We strongly recommend that students arrive in time for the start of the school year, when course work begins. Those who arrive in the second half of the year will probably have to repeat a year. Students will only be accepted in Term 4 in exceptional circumstances.
N.B. Class tuition for Year 11, 12 and 13 students ends in early November.
AttendanceA student visa is only valid if a student is attending a full time course (which consists of five subjects) and can be revoked at any time if attendance requirements are not met. Immigration now requires 80% attendance for visa compliance. Students who are sick for more than a day are recommended to make a doctor's appointment and there are Asian doctors available if preferred. An absence of more than 3 days requires a doctor's certificate.
Students are not permitted to take time off for travel during school time except in exceptional circumstances and with the permission of their families or carers.
