Social Sciences

The Social Sciences Department covers a wide range of disciplinary areas including the humanities (Classical Studies, Cultural Geography and History), Commerce (Accounting, Business Studies and Economics) as well as multi-disciplinary studies, elements of which come closest to fitting the social sciences description: Social Studies and Environmental Studies.

All areas of study share a common focus on people and place and the interaction between them. We follow the brief set out in the Logan Park High School Curriculum which tailors the New Zealand Curriculum to our school community.

At each level we draw on the particular methodologies and insights of the relevant subject disciplines to investigate how societies work and how people can participate as critical, active, informed, and responsible citizens. Contexts for investigation are drawn from the past, present, and future and from places within and beyond New Zealand.

The separate subject pages that follow give more detailed information on how each area applies the LPHS curriculum. Additional information and explanation can also be sought from members of the department.
